Yellow brown to dark golden brown heartwood and grayish or white sapwood. Teak has a high degree of natural durability, is moderately hard and heavy with low stiffness and shock resistance but an excellent decay resistance and dimensional stability with a good acid resistance.
The heartwood of Bangkirai is yellow to grey-brown, sometimes with a reddish tint. In light, it will quickly discolour to brown and then slowly to dark brown. The white to light brown coloured sapwood clearly stands out from the heartwood.
Lighter yellowish sapwood is clearly demarcated from the heartwood. Brazilian rosewood has a uniform, medium to coarse texture with medium-sized open pores. The grain tends to be straight, but can occasionally be interlocked, spiraled, or wavy.
Color between boards can be highly variable. There are also small yellow mineral deposits found throughout the wood, making it easier to separate from other lookalikes. Grain is straight to interlocked. Texture is coarse,with a moderate natural luster.
Black Ironwood’s heartwood can be a range of reds, oranges, violets, and browns. Pale yellowish white sapwood is clearly demarcated from heartwood. Black Ironwood has a straight and even grain with a very fine texture and high natural luster.
